Kurt hit me up a while back and we have been exchanging emails and pleasantries ever since. He very humbly wrote telling me he enjoys drawing the characters on my site. I figured someone who enjoys my subjects and their kits as mush as I do must be cool. Then the mail arrived
Dont be nosy, no reason to read the letter, point is look at that chuck taylor (belonging to his girlfriend Ann who’s pretty fucking rad herself!)
The sketches are exactly what I wish I could doodle!
On his most recent drawing trip to New York (he brings his students along!) to meet with some illustrators and artists/designers I had the honor of finally meeting Kurt. In the short time we had together I flipped through 3 of the heavy books he had carried along and snapped just a few of his amazing sketches.
Not sure this fellas from my site, but he is special! Kurt is just awesome.
I searched the world wide web and found some accurate words on Kurt: Habitual sketchbook practitioner—Kurt Hollomon’s work employs the direct observational drawing style that gives his illustrations a sense of reality tempered with a quirky, spirited line. Former Mt. Rainier climbing guide, Kurt has been art director, designer and now illustrator as well as teacher of drawing and illustration at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon. A modern day Magellan with a Micron or possibly Lewis or Clark in a Land Rover; bouncing towards the southern tip of Patagonia with a cheese sandwich and bottle of water tossed into a shoulder bag filled with drawing supplies… few artists have been able to capture the beauty, history, and happiness of the outdoor lifestyle as Kurt has. Benoit creates his own pleats by sizing up about 10″ in his jeans. If these photos don’t impress you, he also makes wicked waffles I’m told.
Orbit hit me up me and asked If we could partner, Benoit couldn’t have just a slice.
Love a painting where I can say ‘nice tie, love how his collar is up’. I shoot what inspires me, love art as if it were a tie itself. In this case i shot this and other pieces that are clothing/fashion related for me anyhow…
And the guys that are walking the show looking at art. They are most of the time too cool. In the best way. The coolest rich old dudes almost always have great style at these sorta things. Tweed, wide wale corduroys, double vents, great fits, Borsalinos, cashmeres, khakis, boat shoes, belted coats, tattersalls and messy hair!
All this Tattersall and wool, Lovethe ballcap too. If youre wearing a blazer and jeans, it best be a weekend! Since thats the cool guy uniform in NYC these days…
The boy in his pleats! Amazing, love his striped T shirt and pleated pants!
And this guys pants! A few pleats found here.
This lil fella is on point with his fair isle sweater/ flannel shirt. Too cool!
Creeper shoes which I am really feeling at the moment and some flag jeans!
And back to some classics! Check my mans turtleneck (ultra fine merino??) Cuffed khaki pants And those woven leather loafers!
The double cashemere knit program! I’m a fan. Especially with a tweed blazer.
Calvin Klein The Man Himself
The coolest look I saw was this guy, outside the show as I was leaving and he was pretty beat from walking with a stroller Im guessing, but Thank you for stopping for me!
I like this kid and his denim on denim kit. Especially liked how he mixed the gingham shirt with the batik bow-tie. The boots are Duckie Brown for Florsheim, most kids his age are wearing cheap 2nd hand hard bottoms or some wack designer number with some mens leggings or tight jeans. I also like his proportions, nothing he is wearing is small on him. I obsess with fit and its hard, it takes years to build a wardrobe of items that fit. The denim shirt is just the right length, his blazer is a good fit too with most kids today wearing them so short and tiny. Im not saying everything fits perfectly, just pointing out how this young lad isnt wearing tight little boy clothing. The sunnies are Lacoste from Silver Lining Opticians Deadstock collection. The most insane collection of unworn vintage frames I’ve ever seen. Go on in and say hi to Eric & Jordan. Decent fellas.
