An older some may say vintage Margiela coat which is pretty special. I love how you can see the lapel, pocket and buttons under the fabric! Also love that he bought it 2nd hand. Tommy comes correct daily. Here I share two of his looks with y’all. Not sure who makes this amazing plaid wool biker jacket but I’ve been seeing a shitload of leather jackets in this classic style, nice to see one in non-leather. I know Agnes b’ did em recently in a jersey fabric which was pretty cool too. Wat?! A neoprene ? lil DB peacoat sorta jacket? Interesting.
I was waiting for my party at the clock in the main lobby of Grand Central Terminal yesterday and saw 4 men in short pants. Two looked like they had come in from Greenwich to hit the Downtown Athletic Club wearing camelhair overcoats, one looked like he was just a jock and then there was Jay. I had to talk to him…What a brilliant man, listen to his story.
I'm not entirely sure (don't recall most of the night) how the blazer works under a Belstaff, but I like his vintage poly/cotton shirt and what looks like a similar blend in his tie. The collar has such a great roll and the stitching is pretty great too. The way the tie is still tight yet the top button un-buttoned is real casual elegance. I hate when someone just losens their tie and it dangles like an ornament. This looks marvelous. Great knot to boot.
If you've stopped in the Nolita RRL shop you know the fellas in there are of the nicest of retail specialists. Exactly the opposite of most stores today, you can actually hang out there, have a decent conversation that's not all about 'where'd you get those?' Brooks came to NYC a few years ago from sunny California and brings those vibes to Prince Street. Saw him earlier today at Ray's in a great old fedora and was reminded of these photographs I took last winter. One of the great things about working retail for RRl must be that you don't have to wear all Ralph Lauren product when working. The kids there are able to mix it up and do that quite well. I don't think they would wear other modern designers but they do mix vintage better than most people I see these here days.
