Mary & Matt

P3051316
The illest most talented couple I have ever met. (No offense to some other amazingly talented couples~ Kate & Andy, Vivienne & Ward, Kurt & Ann) They have a website MaryAndMatt.net and make chocolate out of their Brooklyn home and other fun things like a Hockney Rugby shirt, chalkboard skate deck… I have had them on here before and have taken beter pictures of them no doubt- but on this day I had to capture them. I was running from the NR to the 4 Train in Union Square and ran into them, after chatting for a minute Jason Polan walked by so it was fun times for a new york minute… Love those special encounters, sometimes you meet people on the street or sidewalk and you dont feel like chatting, other times you run into special people that you cant spend enough time with… These kids dont wear matching Jordans but they sometimes wear blue sneakers on the same day. Matt only wears chuck taylors or vans eras or authentics (i forget) and I love them for this. They can draw (mary made my mustard (they both worked on my MISTER MORT logo(?). I think they both went to yale art school. regardless, I worked with Mary at kate/JACK spade where she finally finished not too long ago and is doing her own thing (BIG UPPS) While Matt does creative shit (copy? i know nothing about that world, but hes suuuuper talented) for dope ad agencies. Thyre quite the team i tell you. I dont know what the weathers like in NYC now as Im traveling, so I go to my bank of images and post what Im feeling that day. Also trying to get out the winter or colder months shots before the warm weather arrives to stay. New York, I love you.

Max A. Stein

I like this kid and his denim on denim kit. Especially liked how he mixed the gingham shirt with the batik bow-tie. The boots are Duckie Brown for Florsheim, most kids his age are wearing cheap 2nd hand hard bottoms or some wack designer number with some mens leggings or tight jeans. I also like his proportions, nothing he is wearing is small on him. I obsess with fit and its hard, it takes years to build a wardrobe of items that fit. The denim shirt is just the right length, his blazer is a good fit too with most kids today wearing them so short and tiny. Im not saying everything fits perfectly, just pointing out how this young lad isnt wearing tight little boy clothing. The sunnies are Lacoste from Silver Lining Opticians Deadstock collection. The most insane collection of unworn vintage frames I’ve ever seen. Go on in and say hi to Eric & Jordan. Decent fellas.

Hickoree Work Jacket I’ve been daydreaming about

Multicoloredworkwear
I love when companies take the leftover materials at the end of the day and turn something like this out. I bought some dishes from the 70's at a fleamarket once that were the same idea. They were marbled into a multi colored mix and give it a mixed-up feel. Kinda like me every day…This jacket was made for me.

William Zinsser, A 4th Generation New Yorker in Brooks Brothers & J Press

Jpressscarf2P1310215 For the start of Fashion Week, I thought I would post someone who has been wearing Brooks Brothers & J Press for over 40 years. I photographed William Zinsser in a Brooks Brothers Overcoat, Brooks Brothers oxford shirt, J Press scarf, blazer and tie. He took his glove off to shake my hand. Thats a true gentleman, it was frigid out. He asked what it was that I like about what he was wearing and I told him the classic timelessness of his look. He mentioned he has an oil painting of himself and the artist made the roll in the collar very clear in the painting! No one spots them like I do. I did some research:
William Knowlton Zinsser (born October 7, 1922), a writer, editor, and teacher. His 18 books, which range in subject from music to baseball to American travel, include several widely read books about writing. On Writing Well: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction , first published in 1976, has sold almost 1.5 million copies. He began his career as a journalist for the New York Herald Tribune, where he worked as a feature writer, drama editor, film critic, and editorial writer, and has been a longtime contributor to leading magazines. Throughout the 1970s, Zinsser taught writing at Yale where he was master of Branford College. Now teaches at The New School and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
Many high school teachers have incorporated Zinsser’s writing into their lesson plans. Some teachers even go as far as to tell their students to “Zinsser” their work (Zinsser used as a verb meaning to take the clutter out of their essays).
